She managed to survive the shipwreck. So, they felt sorry for her an accepted into their bear family. They loved her singing and enjoyed spending time with her. The girl grew and turned into a beautiful young lady. One day when all the bears were gone hunting to other remote areas of the peninsula, she happened to find a young man on the shore. He also escaped terrible death after the wreck and was too weak. She took care of him for some time and fell in love. The young men told of great places he came from and about other people and the young girl really wanted to go with him and when they started sailing away together the bears came and were very angry. They roared and then decided to drink the water from the sea, and it was beginning to go shallow, the young girl started singing and begged them to stop. All of them did, but the leader who watched the young people sail away. And so he stayed in the same position and petrified. The height of the mountain is 570m. It’s a popular place for hiking, though some areas are suitable only for those looking for extreme. Having a map with you that shows all the popular mountain trails and path is probably the best idea in this case. The site contains numerous remains of ancient constructions such as temples, fortresses, pagan sanctuaries and attracts numerous tourists every year. The mountain is home to 600 kinds of plants many of which can be found only here. And of course, all the views from the mountain are simply breathtaking!hide

Palace of Princess Gagarina is a beautiful palace in the southern part of Crimea. In old times there used to be a Greek beacon on that sight. It was their wish to construct a house to live together, even though the desire of living together could not be fulfilled anymore, she still decided to implement the dream into reality. Princess Gagarina invited one of the best architects- Krasnov, purchased the finest materials of that time (Italian marble, German roof tiles, and French glass). The construction was finished in 1907 that’s the same year that Anastasia died, so the palace obtained her name. Gagarina took active part in social life. She built a hospital not far from the palace and invited a great doctor to take care of the local people and even paid the doctor so that he would cure the patients in the surrounding areas for free. The palace is performed in the Roman style and is almost completely preserved and looks nice both inside and outside and has a splendid park around it. The highlight of Karasan estate is its park. It appeared in 1830s and was found by Rayevski junior who was an amateur botanist and constantly enriched the park with unique species of plants. One of the most famous botanists and gardeners of that time (N.A. Gartvis, F.B.Fisher, E.Y.Libo) were involved in the work on this amazing garden. At the beginning of the XXc one could find more than 220 kinds of trees and shrubs here, including rare exotic plants like Atlas cedars, palms, cedars of Lebanon, Italian pines and stone pines, Japanese aucubas, abelias, medlars, pineapple guavas, oleanders, ginkgos, etc. This place inspired many poets and writers, amazed tourists and attracted couples. Crimea is full of legends, it feels like every place here has its own and Kastel Mountain is no exception. The legend tells about a czarina of Sugdey - Theodora and her fortress that fell under the pressure of enemies. The fight was huge and many people died and the red color of the western slope reminds of the tragedy and the blood shed here because of the betrayal of the czarina’s brother. Many noble men wanted Theodora to become their wife as she was one of the most beautiful and smartest women of those times. But czarina vowed celibacy. Twin brothers that grew up with Theodora (Heraclius and Constantine) were the most passionate admirers of hers. They both asked for her hand, and she denied. Heraclius was very angry and said that he would become the king of Sugdey and she would be his slave then. He went to Genoeses, the enemies of Sugdey kingdom, and made a deal with them. He promised to help them overtake the fortress, and in return they had to give him the captive czarina Theodora. Genoeses couldn’t take over the fortress of Kastel that fought back headed by Theodora and Constantine. So, Heraclius tricked the citizens pretending to be Constantine and they let him in. And in his turn he allowed the Genoese army in and killed his twin brother. When Theodora discovered it, she beheaded him and fought against the enemies. All her army was killed and the red stones that are found all over the mountains today remind of the blood they had shed in their noble fight.hide

The most romantic scenes of various Soviet and national films were shot right on this mountain that affords amazing views and has wonderful nature. Mountaineering in this area is rather dangerous, but still quite a few thrill-seekers try their skills and luck here. Many people go to Roman-Kosh (the highest mountain of Crimea, 1525m) by the ancient route for pack animals. A dozen of plants that are found in this place are in the Red Book of Ukraine. Some of the plants and trees are even poisonous, like yew-tree. There are many century-old yew-trees on the mountain that are believed to have been used by witches that made poisonous infusions. Paragilmen is translated as “go for money” and one of the most famous legends actually says that there is an ancient treasure hidden in some area. It was buried there by a limb man Sufrakis during the invasion of his town by enemies. All citizens of his town hid their possessions somewhere in the mountains when they saw invaders. This time his homeland was devastated and enemies kept coming back again and again. Sufrakis decided not to return for his gold until it got safer. Time passed and he got old and couldn’t walk anymore, so he told his sons how to find the treasure. He said where to start from and how many steps to do. But the sons were not limb unlike the father and no matter how much they tried, they couldn’t find the right place. So, it is believed that one day someone will find the hidden gold. The most unique thing in the park is actually the fact that a great lot of trees and shrubs were planted out there in the age of 10-20 years which is untypical, but did good for the garden, as all the species fitted well and formed a nice park at the foot of the mountain called Bear Mount. It's a small construction with a black cross. It's worth mentioning that Princess Gagarina built not only the palace, but also the church and the hospital where local people received free medical treatment. After the death of Anastasia Davidovna, her niece Elena Tarkhan-Mouravi inherited the palace and lived there until her death. Even after the revolution and expropriation of the estate by the government she stayed there taking up only 2 rooms. When she died in 1922 she was laid to rest in the family vault by her aunt's side. These families are respected for their patronage of the area and investments into the improvement of the level of life. hide

There are 280 lamps (green, red, blue) and the pumps use 1 tone of water per hour in order to bring this faery performance. It is believed that Prometheus was the one who brought fire to people, and since the first settlements in this area appeared in the Stone Age, the choice of the main figure for the fountain was rather precise. The sculpture of Prometheus was performed by a well-known sculptor Tseritelli. He made a 30 cm model for it and it was done by Kiev architects in 1980. Partenit is home to the only world’s museum of nature. The museum hosts a unique collection of stones gathered by the owner Alexander Kulish. He has over 4 thousand stones in the museum, each is a unique one, some are just impressive pictures or statues made by Mother Nature. read more

The most impressive part of the collection contains miraculous pictures of landscapes, scenes and portraits. These are the masterpieces made not by watercolors or oils, but by nature itself. And Alexander Kulish was able to see something special in all exhibition pieces.

Every year the collection is updated and new stones are added. This special museum is open from 12 to 8pm, groups should make a booking in advance.

This place is a special sight for tourists that come here to enjoy the seascapes, observe birds that also find this area their favorite, and in some crevices in the cliffs one can spot stalactites. The locals even have names for the biggest stones, like “Bed”, “Soldier’s Bread”, “Trident” or “Monarch”.

During the road construction in 1860s the workers made an interesting discovery. They found a stone wall that they first took for remnants of the water line, but when they dug deeper they found decorative tiles and mosaics and it became clear that it was a basilica. read more

Serious archeological excavations began in the XXc. and that’s when they figured out that the construction was an ancient one dating back to the VIIIc. It was rather large 20m x 15m. The stones were taken from the area of Sevastopol.

The sight is believed to have been used as a grave for John Gothia the head of anti-Khazar rebellion. He was a bishop and his residence was situated in the nearby monastery on the Mount Ayu-Dag.

Right on top of the Cape Plaka one can find a beautiful Alexander-Nevskiy Church performed in Byzantine style. The church is situated on the territory of the Health Resort Utyos and was built upon the project of the famous architect N.Krasnov. read more

The church is not very large. It has great mosaic icons that were made by Shtokarev. The temple was dedicated in 1902, and in 1997 it was restored and opened for church members and visitors.
